Charles and Maxime Hainneville win the Costarmoricaine on the edge
With a total race time of 19 hours 36 minutes and 13 seconds, the two brothers, members of the Club de Voile de la Baie d’Erquy, have made a remarkable comeback aboard their FRA 7622, finishing less than one minute advantage ahead FRA 7 by Emeruic Dary and David Fanouillère (SN Sablais / C N Paul Vatine), similar to 2014 edition…
This victory makes the Hainneville brothers F18 World Champions, as the Costarmoricaine has been granted F18 Raid Worlds support event status by the World Council of the Class (see bid document).
Tight battle at the front of the fleet
As is customary for the Costarmoricaine, battle has been tight between the top five provisional leaders, ranked within minutes before 5th stage start.
After a long reach in choppy waters up to Cap Fréhel, leaders benefited of a light breeze increasing to 8-10 knots for rounding Laplace Buoy.
Vanishing wind and strong current
Battle continued all along the coast from Cap Fréhel to Ilôt St Michel, Arthur and Laetitia Boc-ho playing Cats and Dogs with Hainneville brothers.
Unfortunately, the wind didn’t get strong enough to permit the competitors to gain against the current, and after 20 minutes where the boats stayed stuck, Race Committee decided to abandon the race, and to use timing taken at Laplace Buoy to establish Fifth Stage ranking.
U26 and mixed teams end up in good positions
Third place for young team FRA 888, Armand Clabon and Lorenzo Palazzi (Club Nautique d’Ares / Base Nautique de l’Ouest) with an overall race time of 20:11:36.
Fourth, and first GBR crew, Nicholas Barnes and James Stacey (Brightlingsea) completed the total course in 20h 44 06.
To note excellent fifth place for FRA 42, Lady helm Claire Joly and crew Antoine Runet (CN Paul Vatine) who finished in 20h 47 01. Following, Claire will be rewarded the Sandra Tartaglino Trophy.
Same, nice to see the very good final performance of FRA 2176 by Arthur and Laetitia Boc-ho (Cannes Jeunesse) who reach sixth place despite their forced retirement, following a broken mast during the third stage between Perros-Guirec and Plérin.
