A very long and tactical upwind leg

Another beautiful day with very irregular winds from Plérin to Erquy! ” It was really very light, it rose very gradually up to the Mauve, before falling back and then finally strengthening by three at the buoy of the Légué”, describes Olivier Bovyn president of the Club de Voile de la Baie d’Erquy, and organizer of the Costarmoricaine Raid.

In these conditions, the race committee preferred to reduce the route by avoiding passing through Rohein and Petit Léjon. The result: “a very long trip from the Légué to Cap d’Erquy, quite tactical,”.

Start from Tournemine Beach, Plérin

This permitted to FRA 888 crewed by Armand Clabon and Lorenzo Palazzi to take a good lead that they were able to keep until the end, even if they faced some problems in choppy waters created by the current, combined with a weakening wind behind the Cap d’Erquy.

Following, they take third place in the overall, while six boats ended off-time.

Very tight provisional results, promising a tense final

On Saturday evening, the gaps between the leading boats were quite small, enough to save the suspense for the fifth and last stage of the raid: Erquy – Erquy passing by Cap Fréhel and Fort la Latte.

A route where you have to anticipate the combined effects of sea currents and local wind conditions that often hold many surprises for competitors!
