Hello fellow F18 European Championship Competitors!
For some of you it will be the first time you go through a boat weigh-in and inspection process so we want to describe what you can expect and things to do to be prepared so the process goes smoothly. The purpose is to have an even playing field to ensure all boats and teams are complying with the class rules for this important championship event.
Here are the guidelines:
1 – Book a slot
No need for useless and boring queueing…
Book a slot using this link.
2 – Check your certification numbered stickers
You know the Class implemented a new certification process in January 2023, aiming to ease sailors’ life while ensuring the best reliability.
In a few cases, it may happen your numbered sticker doesn’t match with any form in the Certification Database.
So please be so kind to check whether it is the case. If yes, please immediately contact your builder, sailmaker or measurer and alert the Class at certificates@f18-international.org.
3 – Get your Circulation Form at Registration Desk
Pick up a Circulation Form at registration Desk, and start to fill it in with needed information.

The form will guide you through the four steps of Equipment Inspection.
4 – Prepare your boat before entering the Equipment Inspection Line
- Mast is down resting on your cross beams. You may have some padding under the mast until you get on the scales and then the padding is removed before the weight is recorded. The wires (shrouds and trapeze) may remain attached to your boat.
- Optional to have your spinnaker pole attached and use the boom across the bows to support it otherwise place on trampoline.
- All three sails on the trampoline out of their bags, Class stickers easily readable. Gennakers may not be in the snuffer.
- Rudders can be either mounted on the boat or on the trampoline but the covers must be removed.
- Tiller cross bar and tiller on the boat.
- Daggerboards out of their bag lying on the trampoline, Class stickers easily readable.
- All sheets, halyards, tiller, tiller cross bar and other running rigging are on boat.
- Ensure your spinnaker pole front end has a cap (important safety check).
- You are required to show that you have a tow line (minimum 15 meters long & 6 mm diameter) but it is not on the boat during weighing.
- A compass is optional but if you have one, it can’t be on the boat during weighing. Same with all portable equipment listed in Class Rule C.5. However, compass mounting bracket may be left on the spinnaker pole.
- All access ports and hatches are open and the hull is dry with no gear in the hulls.
- Empty your trampoline pocket; wrench for diamond wire tensioning cannot be on the boat.
- If you have corrector weights (crew or boat), or any other items (e.g., knife) attached to the dolphin striker, it is removed but have the weights with you in case you need them for this event.
- If your boat is less than 180 kg you will have to show the measurers the weights to put on the boat to bring it up to 180 kg. They will mark those.
- Both the helm and crew will be weighed, in swimming costume, after the boat is off the scales. If your teammate arrives later, you can skip this step until your team member arrives.
- If your team weight is less than 150 kg you must show the measurers the corrector weights you will put on the boat. The measures will tell you the amount (1/2 the weight you are under minus how much your boat is over 180 kg), and will mark the weights. Please note that, according to CR C.3.2.(b), any weight of the boat in excess of 180 kg will count towards crew extra weights.
