Successful Australian National titles 2023 at Kurnell Catamaran Club

Pretty good attendance for Australian National titles 2023 at Kurnell Catamaran Club

Our Australian friends just held successful Nationals at Kurnell Catamaran Club, Botany Bay, South from Sydney, with no less than 33 teams entering the event.

By the way, it is always amazing to see those fellow friends downunder are not afraid to drive 2.000+ miles to participate in a National Regatta…

Whatever the case, 12 races have been completed in rather strong winds (average 18 knots), permitting builder/sailmaker pair Brett Burvill & Max Puttman to demonstrate the extent of their talent by winning 8 bullets, their worst score being a 5th place in Race 8, then getting a 15 points total! Really impressive…

If there was no discussion to grant the title, fight has been pretty tense to complete the podium, Gavin Colby-Kai Colman finishing second with 27 points, in a tie with Steve Brewin – Adam Beatie, Eli Henebery-Kris Bilston being ranked fourth despite two bullets, but scoring a DNF in Race 11.

Once more, interesting to count six different designs in the top ten. As stressed by Martin Vanzulli in Cat Sailing News, “Repetitive but true, F18 with all the now updated designs is a perfectly even platform Formula Class, anyone can win, sailors define the title.”

Hope to see most of these sharp teams in Travemünde next July at F18 Worlds!
