F18 class welcomes epoxy as class legal

Good news for EPOXY lovers! Recently the F18 World Council unanimously agreed to adopt the Hungary NCA’s proposal to move forward the effective date of the new class rules to 27 June 2018. All sailors with epoxy F18 catamarans are now able to join the Formula 18 Europeans 2018 in Spain!

Last year there was a vote where all F18 National Class Associations (NCA’s) could decide on a box rule change to introduce epoxy-built catamarans. That change was approved by both the World Council and World Sailing. The new Class Rules also formalises an earlier decision of the World Council to allow paint on F18 hulls.

At this moment some other minor wording changes are still under discussion with World Sailing which will have no impact on the box rule and also won’t interfere with this epoxy rule change. Therefore the F18 Executive Committee decided to publish the approved changes now and clear the path for all sailors and boat builders concerning to this subject.

Detailed result of the epoxy change are for the time being published here in the World Council -> Proposal section on the F18 International website. Also the results of the voting are published there. As soon as the other changes are agreed by World Sailing a full update of the Class Rules will be published.
