ZHIK US Nationals 2014 starts with a blow

On Monday 20th October the Zhik F18 US Nationals 2014 officially started. Corpus Christi is where the best national and international Formula 18 sailors showed their skills. Michael Easton/Tripp Burd did a good job and got their first. Only one race could be held on Monday. An ugly depression coming from the southern part of the Gulf of Mexico forced the sailors to go back to the beach. At 2pm the race comittee deciced to cancel the rest of the races for Monday.

John Casey and Colin Page

It was a fight between Easton/Burd and Casey/Page during the whole race. John Casey: “We won the pin and we had a really good downwind course. At the bottom we split and were 2nd at the the top mark. Downwind we had a good cohesion as a team but Easton/Burd were just a little bit faster. But we’re very happy with this result so far because this is the first regatta we sail as a team.”

The organization is already looking forward at a great event. Steve Piche: “We had one good race today and some great social events. The forecast looks pretty good for the next few days so we should get in some good racing after a slow start.”Tomorrow the weather forecast looks good with wind up to 18 knots at the end of the day. The RC will try to push as many races as possible, maybe even up to 7 races to get back on schedule.
