Texel Dutch Open 2017 – Simon Northrop and Sam Barker win again

Simon Northrop and Sam Barker did it again! Like last year, they won the Toplenzen Texel Dutch Open again, this time batteling 17 other cats. With no less than 5 wins they did a fantastic job in difficult conditions on their Formula 18 catamaran.

Because of a summer storm in the Northern part of Europe the Toplenzen Texel Dutch Open had a slow start. On Wednesday no races could be sailed, but luckily it was possible to sail on Thursday afternoon. At 4 pm boats were launched and one race was held at 5 pm. On Friday conditions were wonderful and four races could be held and gave the teams 1 race to deduct.

Not everything went well on Thursday. Only 9 boats went onto the water, but only 4 boats finished this one race. One boat had some bad luck. Jolbert van Dijk and Frank de Waard (NED 4)crashed their boat when returning to the beach after they scored a 2nd place. Luckily both sailors are fine and managed to have their boat ready in time to sail the Round Texel race today!

  1. Simon Northrop/Sam Barker (1)-1-1-1-1 total 4 points
  2. Niels Kleijweg/Olaf Kleijweg 3-2-3-3-(4) total 11 points
