Just 100 Days until the Worrell 1000 50th Anniversary Race Starts

From Beverley Simmons

14 teams representing 6 different countries are officially registered for the event beginning May 12th on the beach adjacent to the Hollywood Beach Marriott in Florida. When registration for the event opened in April of last year, it took just 4 days for the field of 15 to be complete, with 3 alternate teams signing on the week after that. Since that time however, 4 teams have had to withdraw for one reason or another – leaving an open spot up for grabs. Interested teams can register here: https://worrell1000race.com/registration-2/

This 50th Anniversary event promises to be one of typical Worrell hey-day legend: Local and National Media will be on-hand to cover both starts and finishes and at Surfside Beach SC – Amanda Kinseth of ‘Wake up with Amanda’ on Good Morning Carolinas will be broadcasting live the morning of May 20th for her show. The daily Facebook LIVE! feeds will be broadcast simultaneously over the event’s YouTube Chanel and their soon-to-be Roku Chanel, bringing their media game up several notches and bringing them current with their world-wide fan base.

Major Sponsors have jumped onboard the likes of Zhik, Visit VA Beach, Margaret Anthony (sister to Worrell great Ron Anthony), East Coast Sailboats, Visit Ocracoke Tourism and Development and more have all signed on to make the event amazing for both competitors and fans alike.

Racers will enjoy high-quality, branded clothing both for racing and socializing as well as a first – $100 Gift Cards for each team that wins individual legs. Fans will have the opportunity to buy special-edition, 50th Anniversary t-shirts and swag – all courtesy of ZHIK. Worrell Historical Artist Rick Romano, who has created iconic, Worrell Event posters in the 80’s, 90’s & 2000’s has created a special Anniversary Print that will be available as well – and he’s even traveling the entire event with the Race Committee!

Stay tuned for a listing of all the checkpoint beaches the event will be landing at and make certain you come out and cheer on your favorite team. And if you’re a Worrell veteran or team member from years past? Make sure to find Beverley, your Race MC on the beach – she’ll want to interview you for the live feeds – don’t be shy! YOU’RE A LEGEND.
