Registration Open: Nordic Championship 2015

From Friday August 14th till Sunday August 16th it’s time for the Nordic Championship 2015. Locals call it the NOrdisk Mesterskap (NOM). It is expected that  about 40 Formula 18 catamarans will join this event in Åsgårdstrand (Norway). This location has been chosen because of the probability for good wind, but is sheltered from the biggest waves. It all started in 2011 when the first Nordic Championship was organized and was a huge success. Participants come from very different counties like Norway, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, France, Austria and Poland. If you’re looking for an Amercias Cup experience you should join. Why? Read on…

The race area is pretty unique. Same as the Americas Cup in San Francisco you will be sailing among a prison island. The race course is between this island and the shore. The only difference with Alcatraz is that this prison is still active. Like Alcatraz there’s a tidal advantage/disadvantage to be obtained by using this island correctly. So if some from the island asks you for a ride… don’t! (They even say the local baker is a former bank robber…) But not only the racing area is very nice, also the small picturesque town itself has a lot to offer. It has a nice hotel just only 1 minute walk from the yacht club. Also the famous Nordic painter Edvard Munch lived and painted in Åsgårdstrand for a while. Just visit the museum and have a look at his famous paintings of the harbour.

Registration is open now and and you will have an early entry fee of just KR 1000,- (~120 euro) till July 26th (late entries will pay an additional fee). You can confirm your entry here. The organization has ten races planned for the weekend. On Friday and Saturday there will be a Shrimp and BBQ party. The Notice of Race can be found here.
