Double discard made Bundock-Ashby advance melt
As we guessed in our previous article, completing Race 12 opened the right for competitors to discard their second worst score, which was actually full bonus for Burvill-Puttman being then able to withdraw a 22 and a 23, ie. 45 points from their total, keeping only an impressive series of 7 bullets, plus 2, 4, 6 & 9, for a final total of 28 points, giving them the title 8 points ahead Matt Homan & Kris Bilston (AUS), and 15 points ahead Darren Bundock & Glenn Ashby (AUS), who were leading until Race 11, and who capsized on the final day, then not completing the last race…

Fremantle Doctor decides at the end …
When wind was already 18+ knots at the launching on the last racing day, windstrength kept on increasing close to 25 knots at the end of the second race of the day, causing many capsizes, top teams included, then forcing the Race Officer to stop the racing to avoid unnecessary damages to both boats and bodies, although it would have been possible to start races until 15:30 according to NoR 8.6.

Whatever the case, the game was up, and a fourteenth race wouldn’t have changed the final result.
